Whats New?This week I completely reworked how I would work on this project. My initial plan was to record each separate part and edit them all together in one whole song, but that idea seemed too ambitious and risky, as any mistake in the whole recording would cause me to have to redo the whole song. This week I split the song into 7 different parts and I plan to get one part done each week, leaving myself with a few weeks at the end for working out kinks or refining the editing. What do I Play in Each Part? Each week I have a number of instruments that will be played in that seventh of the song, for example week 1 will have a melody of primarily guitar, but week 3 will be all piano just to spice things up a bit. I will edit each week into it's own video and the final product should work out so I can play each video weeks 1-7 back to back and then have the full song complete. Week 1This week was pretty disappointing for me, I don't feel what came out of my work this week is what I expect myself to create so I will continue to fix it throughout the weekend and hopefully have a video I can be proud of completed by next week, along with week 2's. I have been trying to not be overbearing on myself so I don't get burnt out before the project really starts to get kicking up and the song gets more complicated. I expect the later weeks to get easier though once I get into the habit of practicing the song and I become better at editing so it wont take nearly as long. What I've LearnedThis week I began to figure out just how much I need to practice each day so that I don't get behind. I also have gotten pretty good at lining up the video and audio for recordings. I still need to get better at editing the videos together so you can see what i'm playing on each instrument at each time.

The First StepThis week I recorded what I have already learned from the song and started to learn the editing process I will have to master before this project is over. I set up my microphone and Audacity (recording software) and recorded audio as a .WAV file while my phone recorded a .MP4 file for the video. The Editing ProcessThe software I use to edit is DaVinci Resolve, it's as good as free gets and contains an easier interface for beginner editors. The first challenge was lining up the audio and video files, which I solved by cutting out all footage before I began to play, and had the first notes line up. Next I cut out the audio that was recorded with the video. My phone doesn't record as high quality audio as my microphone does, so I cut it out and made sure it lined up well with the video. To finish the editing off I cut out any long silence after the recording and I'm left with a finished product. Guitar Solo Piano RunWhat I've learnedI have a better grasp of the editing process that goes into this process, and I'm more confident in my ability to create a final product that is what I want it to be. I still need to learn all the parts but by next week I plan to learn some background parts and test out some other editing skills I need to work on. |
